Eco-Buffer Shelterbelt Workshop

December 12 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW), with support from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) through the Environmental Damages Fund (EDF), is launching a new project: Applying a Landscape Approach to Improve Biodiversity. As part of this project, SAW has funding available to support ten landowners in the North Saskatchewan River Watershed in purchasing and planting shelterbelts. This workshop is intended to provide landowners with information and resources about the benefits of eco-buffer shelterbelts and how they can be designed to increase pollinator activity, improve biodiversity, and reduce erosion on agricultural land.

Presentations will cover topics including the ecological benefits of shelterbelts, how to select species for your area, and research on the economic and yield benefits of shelterbelts in agriculture. In addition to providing information and resources, SAW is looking for landowners who are interested in establishing an eco-buffer shelterbelt to partner with for planting shelterbelts in the summer of 2025.
